I had a comment by another mechanic , he asked the question why am i giving away trade tips to everyone ? I said why do you use shit oil in your customers cars ? He said whats that got to do with it ?. I give trade information to my customers to aviod costly repairs , he said then how do you make money? the conversation went no where after that .
Its all about attitude , when i first started Everything mechanical Mobile Mechanic , i had a choice to be like most repairers or do something diffrent and adapted an attitude that i'm not my own boss , my customers are my boss . Advertising is expensive , but the best advertising is word by mouth and the only way to get a good reputation is by doing the job above the customers expectations . The customer will always come back to good service and generate 5 more who in turn generate 10 more . thats the way 'good' business operates and thats my attitude .
I'm not out to make a million dollars , i make a honest days pay for an honest days work . I have worked with other mechanical firms that practice what they call upsell , get the customer in for a cheap service and give them a list a mile long when they come to pick up there car , not to mention the type of oil and filters they use , i wouldn't put in my lawn mower . they are out there , they WILL rip you off and if they do give you a list of things that 'need' doing , always get a second opionion , its the oldest trick in the book and its a scam , don't fall for it .
I do not upsell , yes if there is a problem its my duty to inform you , thats why you come to me as im qualified to do the work . Thats what i aim to change with the mechanic reputation of ripping people off . mechanical repairs dont have to be so expensive to have a quality Service or Repair done . If your getting a $99.00 Service by all means ask the brand and grade of oil they will be using and what brand of filter , and i gaurantee you it will be the cheapest on the market and the wrong grade for your car , how else can they make money ? Thats right ................. Upsell and broadin profit margins with cheap , low quality oils and parts .
I have your budget in mind but also the quality of any work carried out on your vehicle must be of the highest standard and i back it with a 12 month 20 000 k.m. warranty ... But when i finish your service .... service does not stop there , i offer a 24 hour breakdown service for Cairns and region and if you have any technical advise you need i'm just a phone call away .

Hi
Thankyou for visiting my site , I've been in this game for 33 years and there is a lot of preventative repairs that i have carried out , expensive and time consuming .
Be honest , when was the last time you lifted your bonnet and checked all you fluids ? Most will say never . Or it gets checked when its serviced .
In front of every vehicle handbook there is a weekly check list , no matter how old or new you car is . Weekly checks are vital to get a problem before you break down or have trouble . For example , a leak in the radiator hose is detected , your computer or check engine light won't tell you there is a leak , your temp guage will read hot if the leak is bad enough and when engines overheat it puts a tremendous amount of strain on the whole engine , resulting in blown headgaskets , expanded cooling systems and heat damage that can affect everything and very very expensive to fix .
So thats why every manufactor of any vehicle insists that you do a weekly check on your engine , they have even gone as far as coloured dip sticks , clear fluid resiviors so you can check the fluids without opening the lids etc ...
When i work on a car , or anything for that matter i do a CCR = Condition - Cause - Remedy . A part will fail , sooner or later it will fail , but there are reasons why it failed , for instance , lets take our leaking radiator hose for example . Condition will be - overheating - Cause would be - Worn soft hose - Remedy will be replace hose and fill with coolant . But it would be a whole lot more $$$$ to find out that way , so weekly checks can save you thousands .
So , lets get back to those weekly checks , If your bought your car , but dont know how to check your oil etc .... a car salesperson won't show you , and if you don't know anyone mechanically minded , they won't show you , so you don't check because you simply don't know . And thats fine as not everyones a mechanic .
I provide a service that i come out and show you what everything does , how to check all your fluids , tyre pressures , what to look for , what to watch out for , i even go through a tyre change with you . When you know your car you feel safer and confident with your car and some tips to make your car run more effeciently . I don't tell you how to drive but i teach you about your car ........... think of the cost it will save you in the future and is for everyone , .............. Call now 0498483681
Hows your Throttle Body?

I'm not much of an artist , but this is a side view of your throttle body , so what's a throttle body and what does it do?
Throttle bodies are on all fuel injection petrol engines , diesels have similar but are called venturies . The purpose of this is to send signals to your computer to adjust the amount of fuel air mix , when you increase the throttle the valve opens and when you take your foot off the pedal it closes , usually by a spring . The reason why I thought I should write this is to show you what happens to this throttle body with normal day to day use . The carbon build up around the valve in the throttle body increases and the valve will not shut properly , this sends signals to the computer via the throttle position sensor and if its got carbon build up and 90% of cars do have it , will send a false signal as the valve is not shutting properly . I clean the throttle body as part of my service , before the oil is drained , its surprising that a lot of mechanics don't do this as part of your service . Over time this carbon builds up more and more , your car is less responsive and no wonder , its confused as to how much fuel your engine needs and increases your fuel consumption . Servicing your car is much more than just change the oil and filter . When you service with me , I guarantee that you will feel the difference , visit my site www.everythingmechanical.com.au , you will find more helpful tips on your vehicle's mechanic's . Services start from $130.00 . Ph 0498483681 and yes this includes throttle body clean except in severe cases where the body needs to be removed and cleaned . Its very important , so ask your mechanic , do you remove the carbon around the throttle body valve? , if he doesn't then your getting a lube service and not what I call 'service'

Hi
Here is a proceedure to service your own car .
1. Choose the correct engine oil for your engine , the correct spec of oil sae grades are written in your service had book or there will be a list where you buy you oil for the correct weight oil for you car , important , get the right grade of oil .
2. choose a good oil filter ryco or cooper i use , they are good filters , i use cooper as they are better quality and around the same price .
3. Before to go buy the oil and filter take a look at your oil , if its brown and gritty you will need to run an engine flush through the engine before you add new oil , best stuff for this is nulon engine flush , pour the whole bottle in your engine oil fill and run te engine hot for 20 to 30 mins , remove the sump plug drain the oil over night .
4. In the morning , replace the oil bung , add new oil to fill mark on dip stick , start the engine till the red oil light goes out , then switch off engine .
note : depending on model it is also a good idea to clean out your throttle body as the poor fuel we have in australia leaves carbon deposits in the throttle body , buy a good carbrettor cleaner and squirt down the throttle body , around the butterfly valve till all the carbon is gone , dont let the chemical laek all over the engine , put a rag under the throttle body as its highly volitile and can ignite . Put the engine intake pipe back on after cleaning and start the car , you will notice it will not start first go and when it does it will blow smoke , all that smoke is the crap you have just cleaned out of your throttle body , rev engine till the smoke clears . ( its best to clean out the throttle body BEFORE you drain your oil .
Thats your engine lube done .
5. Check the condition of yur drive belts , one of the most common cause of breakdowns is the drive belt worn or not tensioned correctly , run your fingers along the belt , if you feel or see cracks , replace the belt .
6. Check for oil and coolant leaks in your engine bay , if you see a leak , de-grease the area , wash with water but take note not to wet the electricals . After the area is clean , start the engine again and pinpoint the leak , replace the gasket or seal that is faulty .
7. Check the condition of the coolant , dip your finger in the coolant , it should have a strong colour , feel slippery when you rub it between your fingers , if its not replace it , and check the level , if its down there is a reason and no its not evaporation unless you have water in the system , to not put tap water in your coolant , use demineralised water if you need to add . the best coolant i use is nulon green 5 year coolant , its a bit more expensive but its good coolant suited for the tropics , check to make sure you use the correct type of coolant , most coolants have glyco in it but some cooling systems are not suited to glyco .
8. squeeze the cooling hoses , if you feel the hoses are crackerly , squeeze all the hose till the cracking sound stops , do all the heater , radiator and cooling hoses till this carcking sound stops , remove the bottom radiator hose and flush out system with water untill only clear water runs out . Note for excessive cracking in the hoses you will need to get your cooling system power flushed at some radiator outlet , the thermostat may need to be removed as well . Its best to let a professional do it , i can do it and a cooling service starts from $160.00 .
9. Remove the front wheels and check your steering , your looking for loose or worn parts , carry out a freeplay check with the wheel on the ground , engine of , wiggle the steering whel slowly back and forth , if you feel or hear any knocking or clicking when you wiggle the wheel then you have a problem with your steering , and again , best to let a professional do this .
10. Check your brakes , again let a professional do this , a car can break down , but remember it always has to stop , brakes are the most important item on any motor car .
11 . Check all your lights , washers etc for correct function .
12 Lubricate all door catches
13 Check you battery , terminals should be clean , battery clamp should be firm .
14 Check your brake and clutch fluid , you can see the level in most cars without taking the cap off , again if the fluid is down , there is a leak and you should take it to your mechanic straight way .
15 Check your drive line oils and fluids , if you have an automatic , you need to check the auto fluid with the engine running , if you don't you wont get the correct reading and if yu don't know how to check the levels , refer to your serive book or get a mechanic to do it .
16. check hand brake , make sure its not loose and holds the vehicle on a hill , if it doesn't adjust it , there is a diffrence in a hand brake and a park brake if your confused , dont attempt to adjust the cable as you may cause the park brake linings to overheat .
17. Check your tyre pressures , and adjust , including your spare but add another 5psi to your spare . It amazes me that people only check the pressure when they service the car , it should be done once a week . Check the tread on the tyre , it should have even wear accross the surface of the tyre , if its scrubbed its needs a wheel alignment or it could be a result of poor under inflation which in most cases it is . Dont fit a worn tyre to the front steers , they need to be the correct size and tread pattern , this is the law , make sure you do this , very important .
Thats about it , thats the way you should service your car , if your not qualified or confident to do this give me a call 0498483681 i can teach you or do it for you .
Hows your oil ?

This is a bottom view of an engine with the sump removed , it seized due to poor oil and lack of servicing . Notice the colour of the oil stains ? Its that colour because its failed its lubrication qualities by a cheap oil . No doubt a very cheap oil . If your dipstick is this colour you will need to run an engine flush , with a new filter , then drain it overnight , then run a cheap oil through it with a new filter , then drain again for 4 hours , then a good quality oil like nulon or penrite that can withstand Australias climate . It makes sense to spend a few dollars more and use a good quality oil , and good filters . Less friction and better compression gives your car better performance , better fuel economy . My services start from $130.00 , using quality oil and filters and thats all up - no suprises and i don't upsell . Give me a try when your next service is due , you will feel the difference !
which oil ?

Choosing the correct oil is vital for your engine to perform and last . Using the correct oil makes your engine run more smoothly and extends your engine life . So it makes sense to choose the correct oil , brand is a big factor as well . In your service book you will see this chart which explains the correct oil to use for your engine . Its easy to follow if you keep it simple . Unigrade oil in the top section of the chart is a specific oil , made for your engine , Mutigrade oils are based on where you live . For example , if you live in outback australia , desert temps can get freezing to extreme during the day . So you would need a 10W-40 . if its a diesel a 15W-40 . The range (15W-40 ) is the viscosity of the oil . Viscosity means the flow rate of oil . When oil gets hot it flows quicker , when cold , it thickens so when your car sits overnight in a cold climate in a 15W-40 situation , the oil will not give sufficant lubrication untill a 15c has reached and will give maximum flow at 40c . The quality of oil then comes into the scene , do not mix oils , its a good idea that when you get a service to get 500ml off your mechanic for top ups , then you know that you have the correct oil . If your engine is rattling from that $99 service you got for a bargin , these are a good sign that your engine dont like it , it will cause more friction , higher fuel cost's more expensive future repairs , even engine seizure . Im not saying put a high grade full synthetic oil in at $70.00 a bottle , im saying if you got a service for $99.00 i guarantee the quality of the oil they used will be cheap ( and nasty ) , not to mention the filter which would be ( dirt ) cheap . the service is probably done more harm than good , you wont see the damage straight away , but in time , for sure you will .
Manufactors put this chart in your service book for a reason , say if you lived in sydney , in winter its freezing so you will need a thin oil 10W-40 . Cairns is completly diffrent it will need a 15W-40 . It depends on what type of engine you have as well , like if you have a high performance engine with big oil galleries and you lived in cairns , it would be vital that your engine gets immeadiate lubication so a thicker oil with high temp is needed , if a high performance modern car in cairns with small oil galleries you would choose a full synthetic oil as they have high oil pressure . Always use the recomended oil for your engine with in your range . I use Penrite oils and Nulon oils , Penrite is top of the range and is classed as a high quality oil , so is Nulon , they both have Full and Semi synthetic oils . Semi synthetic oils work well in most modern and post 10 year vehicles in Cairns , most engine wear is caused at start up . When you change your oil first look at the color of the old oil . In this case if its brown or black with gritty feel to it , run some engine flush through the old oil for 15 to 20 mins , get the engine hot , drain the oil overnight with the filter removed , ensure its in a dust free area . add the fresh oil and filter in the morning , i promise you you will feel the diffrence and you car would last a lot longer . My Services start from $130.00 using Quality oil and Filters and i wont give you a repair list as long as your arm , its one of the oldest tricks in the book when you get your car serviced , they advertise a dirt cheap service to get your car in to find faults and you end up wit a list of repairs that ( they say ) you ( need ). Choosing the right Mechanic should be the same as choosig the right oil .
Tricks of the trade ?

I've been around , and worked on almost every make and model . I get a lot of feedback from customers about there experiances with past repairs and service .I see a lot of repairs carried out that are not nessesary and far too expensive . I hear a lot of ' Tricks ' repairers use to get your business .Scare tactics and just basically ' ripping you off ' . I have this attitude for all customers .' The customer is my boss , they pay my wages , and if i do a good job i have a customer for life , not to mention the extra customers they recommend me to service and repair there vehicle , females have been the target and still are when it comes to repair or service , i explain my repair or service before i start in plain english and quote with good quality oils and parts , all my repairs are covered with a 20 000 K.M. / 12 month Warranty . In some cases extended Warranty for two years depending on the repair . One of the biggest tricks i see are the good old $99.00 Service . But ask yourself , for $99.00 what brand of oil are they putting in my engine ? Is the dirt cheap oil filter going to filter my oil properly untill next service ? Can the oil keep up with the extreme temperatures consistant with tropical Cairns ? They use this cheap service to look over your car and tell you , you need a list of repairs , in some cases there is nothing wrong with your car but they still insist on these repairs . I can gaurentee these 'mechanics' do not have any intrest in you or your car expect your purse or wallet . Your buck stops with me ! I do not carry out repairs that do not need doing ,and i don't upsell, my Services start from $130.00 . If something is wearing out or a small oil leak that could cause damage to your car i always inform the customer of how much it will cost and how long it can wait till it needs to be repaired , safety items such as brakes and steering are far more important than a small oil leak and i have your budget in mind , these are tough times , you need your vehicle repaired and serviced , but you have limited funds , i understand this and only do ' nessesary ' items , and i welcome second opinions . So give me a go , i wont upsell you or use 'tricks of the trade '.
Time for a Tune ? - re-map

If you own a vehicle 2000 and up , chances are you have a computer with an engine management system , this system tunes your car as you go and they are very reliable , i have a computer programme that can re-map your settings . What this does is adjust the voltage current to all the sensors on your car and gets the best maximum performance with fuel economy . Or re-fresh your computer back to factory settings . Not all makes and models can be re-mapped , sometimes the chip needs to be replaced and then re-programmed . All of your security remains the same except your engine managment system . When a manufactor promotes a vehicle from factory , they programme the computer for the promotion , in other words if they boast that one of there models is powerful with low gear ratios and can climb mountains then more voltage would be applied to the fuel injectors and sensors to allow more fuel consumption , when a diffrent model boasting great economy would have less voltage flow to the injectors , map sensor etc . My programme re-programmes your computer and finds a good balance , or you have the option of more power or better fuel economy without affecting the normal functions of your engine . Its good to re-fresh your computer settings every few years as this is not covered in any service scedule , but is so vital to the running of your vehicle . It makes sense , prices start from $110.00
Jump starting procedure

I see a lot of damage to ignition systems and computers due to incorrect jump start procedure . You cannot see electricity but it travels in a wave format . Imagine an ocean swell the wave motion is the same as electricity . When you jump start a vehicle or have your vehicle jump started , the wave pattern can jump , like a tidal wave , this wave can damage your computer and ignition system and in most cases are very expensive to replace . Most breakdown patrols have what they call a ' spiking device ' attached to the positive and negitive battery terminals , some jump start leads have this spiking device installed . The spiking device keeps the electricity flowing as a wave and cancels out any tidal wave or sudden surge of power . If your not sure , call a mechanic to start your vechile .

Ever come back to collect your vehicle with to find the bill is way beyond your expectations ? And a list a mile long for repairs you ( need ) . Here at everything mechanical contracting its our policy that no repair is carried out without your authorization . And we will explain the repair that is needed in plain english and a full quote .
In a lot of cases a customer will bring there vehicle for a service and the mechanic will find multiple faults . Thats his job , we understand that times are tough so we put your repairs in priority , saftey items are always first eg. brakes , lights etc , a small oil weep can wait , your brakes are more important , so if problems are found we can prioritize your repairs , so you can budget and plan your repairs to suit your situation .
We don't upsell you at Everything Mechanical , if you come for a service , thats what you get , no added extras , and we can provide everything your pride and joy will ever need at your approval .
Was your last service dirt cheap ? Ever asked yourself why ? We care about your vehicle so we use only Penrite oils and good quality filters , using a low quality oil in australias harsh climate has little protection as it cannot stand up to Australian conditions , a good indication if your oil is doing its job is to remove your oil filler cap and look under it , notice any sludge? This can mean one of two things , poor servicing or low quality oils or both .Running a better grade of oil can increase engine performance and give you better fuel economy . Try me for a service , you will feel the diffrence .
